June 17, 1999: NO QUARTER ASKED

It's easier to be a sour grape than a sweet grape. It's much more fun too. To be a cynical bugger. A splinter in the trenched soldier's bum. A kick in the teeth. So I'll try to skip that for today. Didja ever read that Lloyd Llewellyn comicby Dan'l Clowes, I Hate You Deeply/I Love You Deeply? It's a laff fest! First he did the hate comic, then readers commented on that, then he did a love comic, only to regress into hate again hal f way through. "Haters makes the best lovers", he ended the story. Well, I thought it was fun.

Lately, I've listened to a lot of music. I really dug The Best of Os Mutantes, brazilian psychedelic bossa rock from the late 60s. The second track is called Avé Lucifer. M ost tracks are brilliant. This is actually the third interesting album from David Byrne's Luaka Bob label I've heard this year. Pretty sweet. Other good albums I've bought lately: Jad Fair/Kramer The Sound of Music, Trojan Ska & Dub boxe s ("chick-a-chick" goes 'Scratch' Perry on Doctor Dick. "let me have it, doctor dick, i need an injection" goes the out-of-tune girls. Or on Blam Blam Fever, a menacing voice goes something like "The only solu tion is blam blam blam/what is this in our little island?". Fookin' brilliant!), Thievery Corporation et al on Covert Operations, Headcoates' Headcoatitude, a healthy dose of French hiphop (IAM, Arsenik, A ssassin, Alliance Ethnic, Raggasonic et al), Black Flag, Suicidal Tendencies. heck, I even picked Prong, Slayer and the first Shellac album out from the shelf. Blackstar's Emperor Selassie I was "massive". Mister Scruff's album was fun. Et cetera.

Not much live the past few weeks, though. Dipper made a hugely successful gig last weekend, but I missed that. Guitarist Magnus bled like a pig, singer Jocke puked on stage (as per usual), punkers and bagladies on stage, made for a chaotic and colourful event. Allegedly. The same weekend I went to a club where a JA DJ were playing with others. It was good, but a bit lame, only playing Ragga Ragga Ragga collections from the sound of it. < /p>

Nah. This isn't getting any more substantial, is it. I'm taking the ferry to Copenhagen in 30 minutes. Gonna drink some good dane beer, I think. Fantastic weather. Sun pouring them rays. Life sure loo ks good when the weather is good, summer is closing in, money's in the pocket, the cock's in a sling, the buck has stopped, the rock is hard and so on ad nauseam.

Time for me to exit, Terminator X-it.

/piggo
